The Kennesaw State Owls looked to build on their opening-night victory on Friday, October 20th, as they played host to the High Point Panthers. What started as a low-scoring, tight-checking affair exploded into a flood of goals in the third period.
High Point controlled most of the 2nd period and had momentum firmly in their grasp with a 3-1 lead in the final minute. But the Panthers would take a costly major penalty against Kennesaw captain Adrian Pape(68) to set up the Owls with a five-minute power play to start the final period.
The Owls rose to the occasion and scored three times on the major penalty, including two by Chris Scott(48), to give KSU a 4-3 lead less than three minutes into the third. Scott now has 5 goals in the first two games following his hat-trick against Georgia. The game wasn’t out of momentum shifts unfortunately, as High Point would tie the game at 4 less than three minutes after the go-ahead goal by the Owls. KSU goalie Connor Lakly(29) did his best to hold down the fort against the unrelenting Panther attack but eventually would yield 2 goals in the final ten minutes. High Point would hold this lead until the end, and win the game 6-4.
The rematch will be tomorrow, October 21st at the Cooler in Alpharetta.
