The Kennesaw State Owls dropped the puck on the 2023 hockey season on Friday night against their in-state rival, Georgia. This was not only the first game of the regular season for the Owls, but also the first home game at their new rink “The Cooler” in Alpharetta. KSU dropped both games to Georgia last season, failing to score in either game. Friday night was a much different story though.
It took less than half a period for the Owls to break the seal on the new season, as Hudson Orgeron(93) scored short-handed to give KSU a lead they would never lose. KSU would build their lead to 4-0 near the midway point in the second period, and answer a pair of Georgia goals with two of their own to close out the second frame up 6-2.
With the game all but decided, the Owls continued to pile on the offense in the third period. Forward Chris Scott(48) completed a hat-trick, and Orgeron scored his second short-handed goal. Goalie Connor Lakly(29) wasn’t called upon often, but when tested, he answered the bell nearly every time. A proper christening for The Cooler, and a great way to start the season for Kennesaw State.
The Owls play host to High Point University next weekend (October 20th & 21st) at the cooler in Alpharetta.
