Kennesaw State kicked off 2023 with a pair of hotly contested losses to in-state rival, Georgia
Tech. The Battle of I-75 may not have lived up to the name in the first game(a 6-2 Georgia Tech
win), but the Saturday night showdown more than delivered.
The story of the game was territorial dominance by the Owls, entirely undone by opportunistic
scoring from the Yellow Jackets. Even when KSU would rally and shift the momentum back to
their end, Georgia Tech always provided a response. Tech had leads of 2-0, 3-1, 4-2, and 5-4
but couldn’t hold off the Owls. 2 minutes and 43 seconds into the 3rd Period, defenseman
(8)Michael Cooprider scored on the power-play to tie the game at 5, but the score didn’t hold for
long as the Jackets found a response yet again. Brilliant resilience from both teams in this
matchup with momentum swings aplenty, but Georgia Tech would seize it last. The Yellow
Jackets scored 3 unanswered goals in the final 14 minutes of the game and win 8-5.
Not the result the Owls wanted to start their calendar year with, but there were bright spots in
the game for sure. Next up, KSU travels to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores for
a pair of games. Hooty hoot!
