(88)Christian Sousa scored a pair of goals, and (97)James Kravis had a hat-trick as the
Kennesaw State Owls were victorious in what might be the Game of the Year in the Collège
Hockey South East Division. There were lead changes, big saves, pretty goals, and a finish that
had the ravenous Kennesaw crowd in hysterics.
The Friday night matchup between the Owls and Vols was contested at a feverish pace, with
neither team showing signs of slowing down after 2 periods. Tennessee held a 4-3 lead entering
the final period and quickly doubled their lead with a goal just 90 seconds into the third period.
The Owls would push back though, and with James Kravis’ hat-trick goal, tie the game at 6(!)
with under 6 minutes remaining in regulation. (4)Aaron Tisdale would ride the wave of KSU’s
comeback and cash in on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity to give the Owls the lead with 2:35 to
go.
Now the Owls would have to fend off the final Tennessee charge in the waning moments of the
game. The KSU supporters were shrieking instructions to the frantic defenders as precious
seconds ticked off the clock for the Volunteers. One last rugby-style scrum in front of goaltender
(35)Connor Lakly wouldn’t be enough, and Kennesaw State prevailed.
This was KSU’s first East Division victory, and 2nd victory overall on the season. A tremendous
effort, game, and team performance.
